It seems to easy to take out HWs now, as illustrated by Armageddon a clan of seven players took out seven HWs this round. There have been some discussions about changing fighter formulas but why not just increase shield strength by double the current level. Instead of (T+E)*(1+shields/10) = defense, why not double shield power to (T+E)*(1+shields/5) = planet defense. I think this change would help the game. What does everyone think?

im not sure about that... but the council has ways of stopping floating hw's :D

Edited by Prof: No so sure about that. I am not persuaded that I have seen any proposal yet I like that would stop resources from being stored on ships. Fixing the market potential abuses can be done, and maybe points would move resources off ships and back to planets, but it also might be necessary to adjust the degree to which a strong HW can survive. It is now easier to harvest troops (use credits to increase planet limit) and easier to train ships (20 times attacking to have fully trained assault), and therefore, it might make a lot of sense to adjust defenses as well.

the question is how much of armageddon res were bought for cash? As if you can use enough cash to buy credits, you can take HWs with any formula :)

Well, point really is whether HWs are safe enough now. This is actually something similar to what Max and Devona talked with me about a month or so ago. I think it seems like something worth considering.

As for taking credits, the only way credits can be used to take out HWs is if the troops are already available on the market. Credits don't create troops, but they might move them from one player to another. VS, how many troops did you SELL for credits this round? You have more credits now than any other player in the entire game. Seems hard position for you to take that selling troops or other resources is a bad thing to do for the game.

As for HW defense, I do have some concerns that players do appear to be too worried about losing HWs now, and the ratio of cost of attack to cost of defense loss does not appear to be as favorable to the defender as might be reasonable. When one clan, whether LTC, or Armegeddon, can join together to take out seven HWs in one round, that seems like a bit more than is reasonable to me as well.

Of course, this might also be influenced in thought on this topic by Watupdogg losing a HW recently to an attack by LTC. It is nice to have weaker defense formulas when you are attacking, but darn annoying when you are on the defender side of the battle.

I know for sure that most of the players in Armageddon did not buy credits for cash. Iiridayn has spend almost no credits in the past two months, and has been saving troops and training assaults for some attack since last January, when he started playing on team with me as serial restarter. He has done little attacking since then, but had a lot of resources saved up. IS has a lot of resources built up over a long period of time. StarFox was built up resources over a long period of time as well. None of them were buying credits. Watupdogg did buy some credits, but he used a lot of resources he inherited from another player as well as resources saved from three months of playing with full planet production for attacks. Not sure about others, but do not recall lots of credits being bought by an another member of that alliance. Some, maybe, but I think the lion's share of these resources were saved over time, or maybe, credits were obtained by selling other resources and converting the credits to troops for attacks. The price of troops certainly has gone up over the past few weeks while the intensity of attacking has increased.

Then again, LTC is also using credits to buy troops from the market, so Armegeddon is not the only alliance willing to convert resources to credits and credits to troops for attacks. (Also, I am 100% certain that not one single dime of cash has been invested in buying credits by any member of LTC, and they have taken out a large number of HWs as well, so the defensive strength of HWs is not so much an issue of credits for cash as it is an ability to have any degree of safety in an environment where there are more troops available to be used by someone in attacks on existing HWs).

talknig about buyng credits I had in mind whatupdogg mostly, as to have the number of points he has, he would need around 5 months gathering. And as he is 3 star player, it is just impossible to have these points with his gathered res.

"but he used a lot of resources he inherited from another player "

this another player is professor, isn't it? :)

and some calculations:

armageddon has around 2mln points form captured HWs (maybe a bit more or less, as I don't know how much exactly they got for destroying probes and capturing other planets). So if there were 7 HWs captured, average defence of these HWs were 30mln.
With having 50 planets, I can build 2 such HWs per month. So I don't see any problem if 7 memeber clan captured 7 such HWs, as another 7 memeber clan can build 14 such HWs in same time.
And you can see that no acitve player was defeated because of loosing HW, so it is very good that more HWs are getting captured, as only such way we can clan inactives :)
