It's time for me to remove the digital wrapping paper around a new side project for the Skylords community.

# Project: Aurora!!

Project Aurora is an open source plugin for Skylords and it is hosted on free Heroku servers and is managed through its Github page.

The projects aim is to add UI improvements to the game and features on top of the current game.

Aurora is a platform for change on Skylords and a starting point to modernizing.

## Why a plugin?

Why a plugin you say, because its easier and faster to get updates out this way. Happy to work on the backend as well but this allows the community to work on a closed source project.

## Contributing

As this project is opensource so it means anyone reading this can also contribute new features and it also means Iiridian and Co can also take any of the features and build them straight into the game.

## Long term

I know there are some other community features that have been built in the past, but I plan on finding them and building them into this project. This will mean all new players can take advantage of the same tools as everyone else.

## Why do this

Skylords was a great game for me as I was growing up. I was never as good as everyone else but I was always quite friendly with Zyg, Prof and Iiri due to common ground in programming.

I see posts on here every so often about modernizing the game and then the ideas slowly fall to the wayside. This project aims to empower those ideas and bring them to life.

@ReaperOfSouls this at the moment is purely a browser plugin of you will. It's client based changes on top of the game, but nothing that breaks the integrity of the current Skylords

Think of them as big fixes for now.

The source code is open sourced, so anyone can go see the code, change it, improve upon it etc. Iiri can take all the code and build it straight into Skylords if he wants.

I have not spoken to Iiri yet, but who knows, depending on the popularity of this community driven plugin could help sway other decisions about how much time to place against Backends changes as well

Oh ok, I installed the plugin and input the Javascript but did not see any changes listed on the repository. Have any of these gone live yet?

If you head over to Github then you should be able to see the work that has been committed in. Head over to the Issues list and see what Issues are closed already and they are the feature list

There are currently 3 features live and I am working on a page that lists each of these and gives the user a way to customize what runs as not everyone will want all the features that the community develops etc

I have added in a new Settings page for Aurora and you should be able to see it at the bottom of the left menu

## Feature 4 - Markdown posts

The forum posts are so 90's, not supporting anything except smileys. This takes the post content and runs it through a Markdown converter so that posts can now be styled, include links, have images, list etc ...

Note, this doesn't change or break anything on the original posts so users not using this plugin can still see the posts as normal. This is just an enhancement on top
