A couple of us tried to buy it off Zygi before it went down, but without anyone able to really manage it or afford to have someone take over it, the deal fell through.

I personally liked features of FL better. I tried out SL when Zygs started it but went back to FL until it went down permanently. To my knowledge none of the old FL guys stuck with SL unfortunately

it was a lot more complicated than SL. I couldnt get into it. The simplicity of SL was definitely what kept me here.

FL, during the last few years, belonged to one hosting company and I had no rights to transfer any resources to anyone else. Even when the domain registration has expired, there was not ethical to use the name for anything else.
FL was a nice game, but it came too early. There was no social environment we have today, monetization options were not well understood and implemented and in general, it was incredibly difficult to accept credit cards on internet. And who had credit cards in Lithuania in early 2000s? The only way to get approved by payment gateways like WorldPay was to transwer the ownership to a bigger company.

Yes, SL was developed as a successor to FL, because:
1. I had no rights on FL anymore.
2. I saw, that a company lost interest in improving it.
3. I had new ideas to test.

SL dropped support for IE5 and was designed for the latest and greatest IE6

Fun fact #2: in FL, before the bug was fixed by Microsoft, I was using Windows Media Player unique identifier to detect players, having multiple accounts (https://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/01/16/windows_media_player_must/).

That screen shot made me miss FL that much more Zygs!
