It is possible to stock pile ships all over the system and using available technology move them fairly rapidly to where they are needed provided a suitable planet can be found to serve the purpose.
The thing is some of us kind of keep our techniques to ourselves. We don't want them used against us!
As long as you can keep from loosing all your planets between check in periods- defeats are rare. Meaning active players seldom get defeated once they learn the ropes. No one right now that I know if is taking joy in defeating new players. In part because no one has ticked the long term players off for a while.
