You can only place 16.7M on a planet, but it will continue to gain interest.

There is a hard cap at 16,777,215 which is a maximum string length (or something along those lines) for some typical coding data types.

It's the maximum length of an unsigned 3 byte integer pray (2^24 - 1) which is what SL uses to store the numbers of troops.

To increase it they'd have to increase memory usage for all those numbers by 33% (3 bytes raise to 4 bytes) which would put the hard cap at about 4 billion
