Think about that and you will know god exists.

History is full of wrong theorys, big bang is ONE theory for the beginning of the univers, but only one, there is also anotehr one that has become much more popular nowadays about the Antimatter one. It's, at this point impossible to prove such thing, so since we can't prove something we are going to say god made it?

Oh lordy lordy lordy! I use the lower case version because I am not invoking the Lord (whichever one you may be inclined to follow)

Where to begin. I suppose first off the existence or non-existend of God(s) was certainly NOT proven in any earlier posts, but everyone is free to choose their own belief system, infact that is what is meant by FAITH!

Next the bible is not some magic silver bullet that can be held up to explain well everything. It is a collection of history's, myths, essays, letters and stories collected over centuries and composed by many many very different people who lived in many many different times and were part of many many different cultures. Hardly surprising there is some contradiction!
...to put this into crystal clear terms, read some sailing stories or diaries written in 500 or 600 years ago and compare them to stories written today...there will be a lot of contradictions...especially around sailing off the edges of things!

Now some religions will disagree with me and that is OK, but the bible is not meant to be taken litterally, you are supposed to take the messages out of it, also many Christians will argue that the whole point of Christ coming and giving us His teachings was essentially an update to a set of moral and social rules that had become out of date as culture and societies evolved! The old testament, indeed, Judaism has some really really good rules if you are a desert people living without refrigeration! Incidently Islam is also provides a very moral and socially relevant set of rules for livin, just not for our western European culture (yes that includes North America)

Now as to the statement concerning people who believe in a God being happier than those that don't, you are referring to studies that actually went much further, generally people who believe in "something" are happier than those who don't. I personnally see it like this, people need to hope and to strive for things, those that have targets, whether it is to live a good Christian or Muslim life or to be the best damn Hockey player they can be are happier than those who are apethetic and just cruise along through life.

Oh and of course many scientists are believers in a supreme being or something...science requires an open mind, assuming something does not exist requires alot more proof than assuming something does exist, that and there is a whole lot of weird and inexplicable stuff out there.

btw Shapan I think you may be being brainwashed, not in a bad way, unless you start persecuting non-christians, but it is possible...check under your bed for speakers hooked up to some sort of subliminal broadcasting maching.

So what about aliens? See there I am much more hardcore...they have never been here and aren't coming. Rebuttal?

Aliens i don't know about, yes they can exsist, i like to think about what started humans off on their path, somehow we learnt to build more and more complex buildings, could be evolution of the mind, could have been a kick up the butt more commanly referred to as help

We could have evolved on another planet and been dumped here lol, but i kinda like the idea we are alone, that means no one to wipe us out lol, in which case we will get out there, one way or another, or we'll blow ourselfs up

to be honest if i was god, i would be running a massive experiement, different sections of the galaxy with human life, all look the same all with nearly the same history etc, except for keys things, like for instance jesus, America etc

I'm curious about the catholic's views on christianity leads to happiness.

Look at mother Theresa, she spent her whole life believing and teaching that suffering is the way to heaven. Her famous house for the dying... where the dying didn't even have real beds, couldn't have visitors, had a comunial "open" toilet to use, and confined to the cot they slept in... sounds like a fun time to me.

I have to agree with Arcanix, there is only one reason to have organized religion, and that's the political power you can achive through it. Prof and MS have very good points also.

Don't even get me started on the Dalia Lama or Ghandi.

MinderBinder, gravity only comes into play when two or more bodies interact. According to the big band theory, everything began from one single point smaller then a teniss ball, so i dont see how gravity relates to the initial creation of the universe.

The big bang theory is the most accepted one. No doubt there are other theories, but they do not enjopy the support that big bang does.

Perhaps god as we percieve it does not really exist and heaven and hell are fictious places designed to keep earthlings in check by promising them eternal rest or eternal suffering if they do immoral things (as we have done and will always do).

But there is definately something out there, our world and the universe is too well thought out to be mere coincidence.
