Actually, since troops cost the same production time as vital, PLUS one vital, value of troops is twice the value of vital. Otherwise, you are using both production (to make troops) AND vital to make one troop, so losing out. In terms of cost to make, vital is half cost of T and T is same as cost to make of E. In this, market prices are reasonably well balanced.

1 PP worth of troops consumes 1 PP worth of vital. So, in 15 minutes, 30 troops are created out of 2 PP (and no vital remains). Thus, it costs 2PP for 30 T in 15 mins, or in other words, you get 15 T per PP per 15 mins. Otoh, you can get 30 vital per 15 mins for 1 PP. So in terms of production cost, vital is worth exactly 1/2 troops (twice as much is created per 15 mins per PP). Similarly, in terms of production costs, Iron (30 per PP per 15 mins) is worth half troops (15 per PP net per 15 mins), and has historically closely tracked the cost of troops. Btw, if it makes you feel any better, Prof fell for something similar when he was a newbie too.
