if you store more than 1mln you just get 20k of the resource as interest

Up to 1 million, you receive 2% of amount stored on planet. Over 1 million, no extra income, so 20k interest is received, as Filas said above. So, optimal interest income is 1 million of each resource on a planet and enough defense to keep it from being captured (unlike SmartFox, who had a bit too little defense on the planet to keep it from being captured by SC attackers).
