If you say the invisible empire Ill be pissed(damn you surtees), but Id have to say China, even America has no chance militarily or economically against them. Theyve got nukes which means that it would be a tie if we launched as all would be dead. Theyve got a larger airforce, many are old but of Russian make and they are still highly combative against our more modern fighters as india demonstrated when they whooped our pilots. Their ground army is much larger and they have a solid industrial base whereas we have mostly a service based economy and produce virtually no material goods. If not then when will we know the answer?

Lockheed struggles to produce a fighter a month, Russia, China, and Greece have bigger steel industrial complexes and greeces is better quality. 20% of our economy is manufacturing based not nearly enough of which is in wartime goods to sustain a fight. We lack natural res such as oil as we have 3% of worlds reserves and use 26%. So as much as any American would like to say wed win, wed lose.

Our army isnt as powerful as wed like to think our standing army is small we can barely occupy Iraq for a reason and it aint an overabundance of troops, you cant just take over a country insta drain the resources and leave. It takes years to develop an infrastucture to get the resources and I assure if they are there at all either us or the owners will destroy in the battle and nobody said america is weak, but we sure arent the strongest, as for Hope powerful but small our best advantage right now is technology, but the army is small and if we ever planned on taking over any sizable country for even a limited time wed need a draft. Last time we had that we had a bunch of poorly trained troops no better than any third world nations except that we were equipped with M16's, well now with the collapse of the SU and all the guns weve put on the market poorly trained troops are easy to come by. Last time we had poorly trained troops was Vietnam and we lost 50,000 of em in a guerrila war against a country where we had complete air superiority. China we wouldnt have air superiority, our technology would be practically useless as only a small fraction of the military would would be fully trained. It would become a gudge match and overwhelming numbers always win in a grudge match and as Duo said if China got one advantage that we truly dont its overwhelming numbers.

also Bush is not most powerful man, he has to go through Congress to launch an actual war lasting longert than 60 days, in contrast Chinas leader HU Jintao has no congress to go through and is easily more powerful than Bush, especially since Bush is completely discredited in the international community, China could now organize a better coalition to stop NK than we could

If you think about it, if China declared war on the US you wouldn't just have the US and China fighting, you'd have Europe and the UN too. If the US declared war on China, the UN and Europe might remain neutral; meaning a long war. The USA has never really been in an endurance war in the past century like the UK, France, Germany etc. They might have large supplies...but would they hold out?

"Actually we have one of the largest standing militaries. We are actually the only economically and politically sound nation WITH a sizable military. France, Canada, and other European nations have VERY small armies"
