On either 31 July 2015 or 1 August 2015 the SL sever might need to be unplugged for several hours while carpets are cleaned. I recognize this is not ideal - I was informed about it just a few hours ago, with no more details than that. In the next week or two as well, the server will be offline as well while it is moved to another residence - I will make every effort to minimize downtime caused by that as well, but I can't provide a time frame yet as I do not have an apartment picked out. I will update this post when I have more information.

Edit: It's today, but I probably won't need to move the server.

Look for a new place near a grocery store, chicks have to shop for food, you could look for one and offer to cook them dinner.

Still no update on place to live - if possible it will have fiber internet though, which should enable the server to handle even higher levels of load . I'll post with as much forenotice as I can of server downtime while being physically transported.

Sadly, was the latter - the webserver stopped responding, took me a couple days to notice . There is a schedule now! I can start moving in on 1 Sept 2015 - I'll probably wait to move the server a few more days so that I can just pick it up and install it directly into its new home. Total downtime (ideally ) should be 30 minutes - so expect a couple hours while I wrestle with whatever goes wrong with bringing it back up in the new home .

So the current plan is Thursday the 3rd of September of 2015, expect a couple hours of downtime.

I've not been happy with Comcast of late - they won't provide a static IP without a business account, which costs twice as much for the same speed service. I am even less happy with Google Fiber in Provo. They want $120/month for internet service with a static IP (vs $70/month for gigabit internet, or free for 5 down/1 up) - and won't let me have it anyway because my apartment isn't zoned by the city for commercial purposes. I used to like Google - hip hacker community - but all I can say now is - they've changed. They feel more like Apple than Google now - and I've never liked Apple for personal use (not hacker friendly).

"The Tipping Point" has a story about a brand of shoes which was popular with skateboarders because of how it was designed. Because skateboarders are cool, the shoes sold well outside the target audience. The company made changes to try to draw in the broader audience, alienating the skateboarders, who bought different shoes. As a result, so did the broader audience. I believe the company fixed their design in the end.

Is Microsoft now going to be cooler/more hacker friendly than Google? Sigh. Worst case scenario, I'll still be on a dynamic IP.
