So I am new to this game, came out of the newbie arena near the end of the last round. Now with the start of the new round I am looking at getting more serious but have a couple of questions to help my chance of survival.

Chains- I know these are bad and I need to get rid of them, but what makes it a chain? from what I have read planet detection is +/- 1000. So I should destroy any planets within that range? This would leave me with probably a single system and few resources. Should I offer to trade them and hope the person I trade with does not come to destroy me? Is the risk worth holding onto the chain until I have located other planets? So far the only ones I have found with a probe are beyond my means to take one of them has like a 54mil defence, it will be awhile before I can take it out.

Single planets - I have seen some systems with only a single planet. Why did the owners destroy the other two?

If I build fighters and put them in the same grid as a planet, do they add to the defense?

Ok I have a few dozen others but I will save those for whatever clan I join but the planet chain is really bugging me. I do not want to be eleminated a week into the round :)

Chains - within 1000 distance on any axis of another planet is detectable by nearby.

Your 25 startup planets are not ALL within 1000 of each other. But, some are, and you will have to get rid of some of them to make others safe. Probably your starting system is one of the worst to keep, as it is in the middle of many other systems.

Single planets - if you are at the maximum planet limit, and have a lot of systems, it is less risky to have single planets as you only lose one planet if someone finds your system. This is similar to the reason for elimination of chains. You give up some planets, but reduce risk of losing multiple planets if discovered.

Fighters do not help unless you are online to use them for defense, which is not likely unless you have a LOT of turrets and can be online pretty often.

*Note: idG will NOT store any of your planet coordinates. If you don't believe us then check the source code. See aren't we kind to you ;)
