not sure we will destroy ourselves, but climate changes are likely. And, by the time Americans figure out that this is really important and emission controls are needed, China will become a major contributor to global warming, and it is not going to be any easier to persuade them to place controls on CO2 emissions than it now is with the Americans.

We have a problem, but the solution is far from obvious. Perhaps we will be able to find another way to address this problem with technology which reduced CO2 via technology. Then again, perhaps BioTech and NanoTech will also destroy us all.

big help that americans need to fix is are use of naturel fuel such oil. Once we start to do away with it we will be one of the biggest inpacts to help fight against globel warming. But in my eyes only way that will happen is if the price keeps going up 80% will have to find a new way to get places and go to work.

Wait! Everbody hold the phone. I hate to be the devils advocate but I think that someone needs to be in this topic. But the simple facts of the matters are these:

1. We can't truely comprehend gobal warming. Not that it isn't happening but we only have guesses, falted mathmatics and an assumtion of the rate that the world is warming. We can not state at which the world has warmed over the span of life on earth because up untill recently (in the terms or evolution) did we even begin to be able to mesure temptures. In order to find a solution to the problem we must start a coherrent study of the temp over the next n years and place it into a matrix that can accuratly estemate the rate or Co2 emishions over a long period on time.

2.Alternative fuels are a goal we must acheive simplly because we will burn up natural fuels before thay replenish (mainly oil). However, that is not a presant day solution but one that must begine to be worked on now in order to be usefull later. This is because it is not profiatable at the moment because as a society we won't sell enough in volume to allow manufacturers to cut prices in the production stage. Further more alternative fuels are primarily based on agriculture by-products and as long as population continues to rise we will be forced to develope more land leaving less of it to produce the food and/or fuel needed to sustain us as a species.

3.We can't forget the most critical elememt of life. Evolution! If the planet can evolve to use O2 (the former posienouse gas, as a by product of plants) I'm sure in time it can evolve to use more Co2 as well.

and even if we were to stop everything that harms the atmosphere...the big gaping hole in the ozone layer would take up to 150 years to completely repair itself (i think.)

I wish I could remember the name of the comedian, but he was talking about the hole in the ozone layer, and how god is going to be pissed when he sees it. All the animals are going to be pointing right to us, saying "the humans did it!"

oh and guys, seriously, we need to stop global warming, we might not be facing the problems, but our descendants will!, and who cares if it'll take too long to repair, if we don't stop now it's not gonna repair any sooner is it? no!..heck, scientists predict that by 2050 1/4 of the animal species will be extinct! because of us!

guys we can easily do stuff, turn off all things in ur house if ur not using them, like lights and such

re-use water bottles so they dont' have to extract as much plastic from the ground

recycle!!!!!!

don't drive as much, try to ride the bus or subway or something or ride ur bike when u can...lol not to mention if u rode ur bike we wouldn't be the fattest nation either

right up until max's post i kinda expected that

The reason i targetted America is because America on its own produces 25% of the human CO2 emissions...

Secondly it was america that demanded the rest of the world cut down, leaving itself out of the equation...

China is putting 1.5 Trillion Dollars into protecting its envioroment over 3 (This may actually be 5 its one of the two not sure which) years (Sounds alot but its only like 5% of its yearly turn over)

The US seem to like the big engine 4x4's, could install simple devices into power stations for a start that would decrease the Toxic output, but most deemed it too expensive...

Britian does polute alot, but we have strict rules on cars exuasts, and have alot of people working on it, funnily thou, its getting no where... like the rest of the world,

One simple question, carrier bags over there, plastic ones, do they ever degrade???
