There have been some discussions about how credits should be awarded differently in the future than they are now. In general, most people would like to see more credits awarded to winners, which is generally okay as a concept, but it is not clear how the credits which will be awarded should be distributed.

One thought, which dominates now, as that the top of round winner should get the dominant share of credits. This idea was expressed well by one player, who referred to the second place winner of the round as being the "first loser".

This is ONE possible credit award scheme, which we are mostly using now. An alternative credit award scheme which also has some merit was used in December 2005, in which all of the top 10 or 20 players in the round won a large bonus, so anyone within the top xx ranks of the game at the end of the round got a relatively similar amount of credits.

I would like to start with the assumption that we have a fixed pool of credits that will be awarded. I will determine that amount myself, and it will not be a matter for voting, since it is likely that most people would simply vote for the largest amount of credits I am willing to consider awarding, so I will have to determine that maximum total amount on my own.

Given this pool of credits, how should this pool be awarded to different people achieving success in the round, on a percentage of the total credit pool basis. For example, Filas suggested awarding credits to the top 20 winners of the round, on a slightly declining basis, which might mean only 10% of the total credits available would go to top winner of the round, and 1% of credits go to bottom winner of the top 20 players, or something like that. In contrast, we now have credits awarded based on the following percentages:

Round 1st place winner 50%
Second place winner 15%
Third place winner 7.5%
Fourth place winner 5%
Fifth place winner 2.5%
Class B, C, D, and E winners 5%
Total = 100%

I would like to hear some discussion of alternative credit award allocations and why something else is better, but only based on a percentage of the total pool allocation basis, not based on some arbitrary amount of credits per level or place in ranking acheived. I will determine the actual credit awards to be given based on the size of the total pool to be allocated and the percentages we come up with jointly after discussion regarding allocations of awards.

how about this:

leave 50 % of the credit pool like it is currently, and the other 50 % are split up based on points of the relevant top players ?

Interesting. Credits awarded based on points earned during the round. This is a new idea.

Another idea, suggested by some, is that the more credits that are purchased during a round, the larger the pool would be for round winners. Sort of like awarding 50% of the credits from purchases to the buyer, and a matching amount of credits to the round winners pool. That might be interesting to use in combination with Digiat's idea, with there being a fixed credit pool and a variable credit pool based on credit purchasing levels. That idea was one that I first rejected, when suggested, as I like having a fixed award level determined in advance for each place for round winners. However, to be able to win a round without buying credits when others are doing so is darn impressive, so deserves a bonus.

If you look to what I've suggested, it was not 10% to winner, but around 30% to winner, 15% for 2nd and 10% for 3rd - such way top3 gets more than 50% of awards. But to make every of top20 places have some value, means to make it worht to fight even for 15th or any other place not in top3 or top5, it would be good to distribute other 40-50% among other top20 players, but differentiating amounts depending on place (not the same amounts for anyone in top10 as you done on decmber) - so if you are let's say 12th and you need only 1-2k points to get into 11th, you'll definitely try to to this at the end of the round :)

In principle my model of awards can be used in any type of prize fund - it can be always fixed amount or depend on purchased credits - we can just decide % of prize fund for every place and it will work fine.
In one of topics I posted what would be awards for every place if prize fund would be 34700 credits.

I don't like idea of awards based on points as then difference between 1st and 2nd place credits will be very small - and 1st, even if you won by one point, is much more valuable than 2nd :)

Yea, I like having top20 getting rewards.
Also credit pay out needs to be increased, so that getting first covers some of the cost(but not all) and it actually becomes worth fighting for first. Last round I had no desire to, it simply was so uneconomical (and I was in Wales :P)
