Before we all jump in and say... er... well say what a few people have already said actually... would you be able to make a clear statement as to whether players will be allowed to play both versions or will we have to make a choice?

Also can you explain whether this server will continue to run OR is it that the new server will be the only server (Might end up being no matter what)

Use the new server to test etc until the summer, then new game, rules are set, war is on, let the fun and games begin, (During which time of course i see this server disappearing??)

Am i right in this thinking?, or will there literally be a parallel game

People can play both versions. And, at first, there will be separate servers. Eventually, there might be a migration to the new game server. The new server will solve some of the problems we have had with email and a few other issues, and it is easier to restart on a new server than to port the existing game intact over. It also lets us test the new kernel of the game code after the rewrite in a completely new environment.

There also is a need to clean up the traditional version of the game, by getting rid of players who are long gone. The database has gotten far too large, and the large database with existing game code takes up a lot of memory and slows down processing. So, clean up is needed as well as improvements to code.

one thing about cleaning - I think you should not clean players who has planets even if they are inactive for year or more, as deleting planets is not a good idea. Planets of inactive players plays a big role in the game and number of such players is not too big in comparison to players without any planets.

i don't think players should be deleted with less than 60 post because some people might be new, some post mostly in clan forum, and some might not want to talk

yup, not playing and not posting in public forums are different things entirely
