I think we should do away with Nearby Button, and make probing (expand the ranges and make it cheaper) the only way to discover other planets. Maybe make nearby an enhancement that you buy round to round.

Okay, to clarify. There is a difference between what I prefer and what the SL council has recommended we do. I have decided to go with SL council recommendations, as there are a large number of smart players there who feel strongly I am wrong. Therefore, the changes are:

1. Nearby will go to 1000 range again on July 1st. All at once.

2. Maximum planets with upgrades will be 50, with planets over 50 if full planet upgrades (or over 25 if no new planet upgrades purchased) lost starting July 8th (there is a one week grace period before random excess planets are lost to give players time to purchase upgrades or to oblit or leave planets).

3. There will be no change in probing (I wanted change, but SL council disagreed).

Professor -

I appreciate the efforts you are making to improve the game.... but I must admit that changing the nearby planet back to 1000 is not a good move for a couple of reasons.

1) Short term - On July 1st many planets which players have worked hard to isolate will suddenly have nearbys - so if players are not on at that exact time the rule change could hurt them after putting in extensive effort (this was not true of the opposite when you reduced nearbys)

2) Long term - Increasing nearby will reduce the need to probe which I was glad to see brought back to the game as too much gold was accumulating as a near worthless resource.

People are generally adverse to change but change is good and is a fact of life - but to suddenly change things and then change them back is not giving me much confidence in the what appears to be constant tinkering with the game.... can you share your long term vision of what you see the game looking like in 6 months so I can plan an appropriate strategy?

And FYI - 50 planets is still too many for any single player - It really shouldn't be higher than 40 (besides who likes harvesting.....)

why did we nominate Amidamaru again? :D

But more importantly I'd like to know where Professor thinks the game is heading..... Will resource limits on planets increase so HW's can become larger or will HW's become a thing of the past? Will ships be limited to the known galaxy or will they continue to be able to go outside the explored/populated limits? Will assault/attack formulas change again? Will clans have membership limited? Will new planets be dropped/added on a regular basis? Will people continue to be able to purchase credits thereby allowing them to buy an advantage over others in a free game? Will the number of planets allowed stay at 50 (I hope it drops to 40)? Will 500k NP planets come back (I hope not)? Will silicon or hyrdogen ever have real value?

Has the game seen increased activity in new players (I hope so as Ranger Academy was just founded)? Have the changes which I understand were designed to help new players shown positive results (or is it too early to tell)?

I think if Professor could share a vision of where the game is headed we could all enjoy the game a little more... I was a big fan of the increased activity last round and of many of the changes but it is getting difficult to believe in any one strategy as rules keep changing..... a general direction would be helpful
