A way to survive in the manner that SS is talking about...all you would need (though it is a very hard thing to attain) is an artificial body to store your consciousness in, and put your real body in stasis, using the genetic code of your body to devise clones, growing them in test tubes. In such a rebirth, you could essentially reconstruct the entire genetic makeup of all humans and make it a far superior creation.

So maybe it wouldn't be quite as bad of a death. I admit though, it would be miserable losing your friends, and family, and all people you ever loved...but it would be your duty to reconstruct the race and repopulate the world, so that those deaths would not be in vain.
