I agree with Chaos. Plus whoever has a nearby to that system can send in ships the fastest thus havung an advantage. But how much resources can you bring in?
I like the idea that digiat has proposed and may I be bold enough to suggest another? Yes, I think I will! How about if we have a round robin tournament. We each take a planet in the same system, then set up one on ones with another player to see who can hold it the longest, destroy most of the others ships, pirate, etc. The winner gets to move on to the next round and competes with other winners. Losers do the same on the other.
I realise it can be complicated but it would be a lot of fun too!

Update: Maybe even have two nearby systems??? and both the players are given one system each with a set time limit to capture the other players system? The winner gets to keeep the system and plays another winner. The loser can start over again. Points can be alloted for winning, and how fast it was done. Ties can be given points too. Would need an administrator to monitor though.

i would not add such a rule, everybody can build whatever he want, you have to bring the resources, so you can build whatever you want
