EL, as an outsider, let me say that what you have discribed relates to a lot of real life. We rarely get things right the first time, or maybe even the second or third...The key is to learn from those mistakes, ask or give forgiveness where it is merited, and move on with a better and more positive approach without selfrecrimination which is destructive. Having leaned what you have gives you life experience to use and grow. Never look back for what was but forward for what can be. At least that's what adversity has taught me in RL.
